Hydrosols are also known as flower waters and are made from direct steam distillation of plant materials.  Certain parts of a plant are hydrophilic, which means when you steam them these parts will turn into water, which, in turn becomes a hydrosol.

Hydrosols are very fragrant and cooling.  They work great to freshen up your skin and/or any room in your home.  You can also use them as a deodorant!  I use the Lavender Facial Spray on my face, underarms and feet.  I also spray in the bathroom and around the cats litter boxes.  If you like the smell of lavender, this is the spray for you!  As a hint, keep it in the refrigerator to get a really cool uplift when you need it!

Banish Your Headache with Lavender

As aromatherapy becomes a larger and more established industry, there is an increasingly large group of people who absolutely swear by essential oils. They claim that they are not only a pleasant addition to the home, but they also offer some concrete health benefits. In particular, people seem to praise lavender essential oil. This scent has been cited as one of the best for inducing relaxation and alleviating headaches.

If you’ve tried everything else and want to try a somewhat unconventional method, consider looking into essential oils. Add a dab or two of the essential oil to a damp washcloth and apply to your forehead while lying down in the dark. The combination of low lights, soft bed, and soothing essential oils has been a successful combination for many migraine sufferers.

How To Make Your Own Natural Deodorant

cloud036There are so many synthetic chemicals in store bought deodorant!  Since I read and researched the ingredients on a bar of deodorant, I no longer wish to put this directly on my skin.  To boot, your underarm skin is the most sensitive skin on your entire body.

Here’s what you do…  Take an empty spray bottle and mix in 15 drops of sandalwood essential oil, five drops of lemongrass and lavender essential oils, 5 fresh sage leaves, 2 ounces of witch hazel and 1 tablespoon of alcohol.  Shake well every time before you spray on your underarms.  Both my husband and I are using this now and we no longer worry about chemicals.

Lavender Essential Oil Aromatherapy Candle

lavender1Lavender Essential Oil is one of the most versatile of all essential oils.  Lavender is known for its calming and healing benefits.  Some of which includes uses as a sedative, antiseptic, antibiotic, antiviral and anti fungal.  It can treat burns, abrasions, coughs, colds, flue, stress, nausea, ulcers, acne, asthma, and insect bites.

I personally love this candle due to the smell.  This candle is 2.5 by 5 inches.  It will also burn for approximately 75 hours.  I would strongly recommend letting it burn for a couple of hours, at least, on the first lighting.  As always, you should use a candle snuffer to blow it out.  This is due to two very important reasons; one, its safer so you do not blow hot ashes and two, you will keep the wick straight!  Enjoy.

lavenderLavender Essential Oil, its botanical name being Lavandula angustifolia, is grown in the south of France.  It has a high ester content, which has a soothing and healing effect for the skin.  Lavender that grows in Bulgaria has a higher alcohol content, which makes a good astringent and is a good skin cleanser.  Lavender grown in England has a sweeter smell than what grows in France.

True Lavender Essential Oil is the most versatile of essential oils.  It is used as a sedative, antiseptic, antibiotic, antiviral and anti fungus.  It also is known to aide in the treatment of burns, abrasions, coughs, colds, flu, stress, nausea, ulcers, acne, asthma, insect bites, rheumatism, arthritis, headaches, migraines, and insomnia.  There is also a known caution to avoid true lavender during early pregnancy.
